This Basic Level course briefly looks at the purpose of Quality Assurance (QA), listing out the factors that QA monitors. Quality Control (QC) is reviewed listing the CLIA policy requirements for a good QC Program, compares and contrasts random and systematic errors, defines how mean and standard deviation are used in quality control, discusses plotting quality control on a Levey-Jennings Chart and how to interpret those results.
At the completion of this course the reader will be able to:
- List the components of a good quality system.
- Recall the purpose of Quality Assurance (QA) and list the factors that QA monitors.
- Define Quality Control (QC).
- Discuss quality control material including what they are made from, what types there are, and the basic rules to follow when testing them.
- List the CLIA policy requirements for a good QC Program.
- Compare and contrast random and systematic errors.
- Define how mean and standard deviation are used in quality control.
- Plot quality control on a Levey-Jennings Chart.
- Interpret quality control results using the Westgard Rules.
